Militants presumed to be from Al-Qaeda on Sunday shot dead two soldiers execution-style in south Yemen and left their bodies in the desert, a military official said.
The two men from the 115th Brigade had been aboard a civilian bus that was intercepted in the coastal Shaqra area. They were taken off the vehicle and “executed,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
Gunmen from the Al-Qaeda-linked Partisans of Sharia (Islamic law) group control the Shaqra area.
The militants also still hold Abyan provincial capital Zinjibar to the southwest, where the military has been trying to oust them from the now mainly deserted city.
