Attack on Algeria’s National Gendarmerie

A policeman was injured on Wednesday in an explosion at the exit of the town Baghlia, 50 km east of Boumerdes and 90 km east of Algiers, according to a local security source.

The explosive device was buried along the RN 25 road connecting the town to the Dellys metropolis. Detonated remotely, it targeted a patrol of the National Gendarmerie, the source said, adding that the injured was evacuated to the Dellys hospital shortly after the explosion to receive appropriate care.

Many similar acts have been perpetrated by elements of the former GSPC, an Islamist group belonging to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), over the past two years. Ten terrorists have been killed by the Algerian army in the last month as part of a military operation over the south-east Boumerdes bush.
