Middle East & North Africa turns off the lights!

On Saturday March 29 the world celebrates Earth Hour. Here are some of the planned events in the MENA region.

A candlelit march will be held on one of the oldest streets in Jabal Amman along with environmental activities and gathering and countdown for Earth Hour at the Wild Jordan Green Building. The lights of Al Karak Castle will be turned off and candles will be lighted by everyone. Several hotels and businesses throughout Jordan will also be celebrating Earth Hour.

On the evening of Earth Hour, the big Roman theatre of Carthage will be switched off and a concert will be organized with renewable energy from solar panels provided by the Tunisian Society of Electricity.

A walk-a-thon along a closed road in Kuwait City, where people will be encouraged to hold a candle.

United Arab Emirated
The UAE is encouraging people across the country to #maketheswitch to energy efficient lighting as a way to reduce environmental impact. With Instagram campaigns for people to share their #EarthHourSelfie with an energy saving bulb.

Spot the largest Earth Hour logo – created on the dried out river bed of the famous Zayanderud river in Iran – on Google Earth!

Earth Hour will be celebrated by turning off the lights of Millennium Kurdistan Hotel and Spa in Sulaymaniyah, among other places.
