The high tech Dubai of 2021. Dream society or too much big brother?

Earlier this month, Dubai presented its vision for the future where government services are to be provided seamlessly to the citizens through technology.

Dubai’s Crown Prince Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the initiative to further boost Dubai on the global arena as a leading smart city.

“Today we set our goals for the govt. of Dubai in 2021, as we march confidently towards the future & new horizons,” he tweeted following the launch of the initiative. “The government aims to compete with the private sector in terms of the caliber of service it provides.”

A video showing future residents of Dubai going about their daily lives in 2021 has been released to illustrate what the government’s plans mean in practise. It includes citizens wearing smart wrist band to communicate with the government and parents receiving updates on their children’s school results via a digital box at the breakfast table.

What’s you view? Is this a vision of a great society or an example of too much government interference in daily life?
